US training Pakistani Special Forces

The United States has confirmed that it has sent military advisers to Pakistan, in an effort to double the size of the country’s Special Forces.

According to Mike Vickers, assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict, less than 100 American advisors are in Pakistan, focusing primarily on "target training" which includes assisting the Special Service Group (SSG) and teaching specialized combat techniques, such as helicopter assaults and aviation training.

Limited US advisors were allowed to enter Pakistan in an effort to assist in quelling the recent uprising of terrorist and anti-government militant groups operating in remote tribal areas.
