USASOC to Remember Fallen Soldiers

FORT BRAGG, NC – Thirty-one Army Special Operations Forces Soldiers killed while supporting combat operations during the past year will be honored May 26, at 2 p.m., when their names are added to the Fallen Special Operations Soldiers Memorial Wall adjacent to U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters building.

USASOC Commanding General Lt. Gen. John F. Mulholland hosts the annual ceremony paying tribute to more than 300 ARSOF Soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defending our nation in the war against terrorism.

Hundreds of family members, friends and special guests of those fallen Soldiers from many hometowns across the country are expected to attend.

Families of about 10 Soldiers who could not attend the 2009 and 2010 ceremonies have also been invited to attend this year’s ceremony.

After the Memorial Wall is unveiled, the names those who died during current combat operations will be read. They are:

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Cpl. Ryan C. McGhee, a 21-year-old weapons squad team leader, died May 13, 2009 in Iraq, while serving with Company D, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Virginia, he enlisted in the Army in August 2006.

Staff Sgt. James R. Patton, a 23-year-old squad leader, died April 18, 2010 in Iraq, while serving with Co. B, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Georgia, he enlisted in the Army in July 2004.

Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)

Sgt. Nicholas A. Robertson, a 27-year-old senior voice interceptor, died April 3, 2008 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, while serving with Headquarters Service Co., 3rd Bn., 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Maine, he enlisted in the Army in May 2005.

Sgt. Nicholas A. Casey, a 22-year-old human intelligence collector, died Oct. 27, 2008 in Pul-e Khumri, Afghanistan, while serving with Headquarters Support Co., 3rd Bn., 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Ohio, he enlisted in the Army in July 2004.

Cpt. Ronald G. Luce, Jr., a 27-year-old detachment commander, died Aug. 2, 2009 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 2nd Bn., 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of California, he was commissioned in the Army in 2002.

Sgt. 1st Class William B. Woods, Jr., a 31-year-old senior medical sergeant, died Aug. 16, 2009 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. B, 2nd Bn., 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Missouri, he enlisted in the military in 1996.

Master Sgt. Mark W. Coleman, a 40-year-old Special Forces sergeant, died May 2, 2010 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 2nd Bn., 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Washington, he enlisted in the Army in October 1988.

Sgt. Andrew J. Creighton, a 23-year-old signal intelligence specialist, died July 4, 2010 in Oruzgan province, Afghanistan, while serving with 3rd Bn., 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Texas, he enlisted in the Army in 2003.

Cpt. Jason E. Holbrook, a 28-year-old team leader, died July 29, 2010 in Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 1st Bn., 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Texas, he was commissioned in the Army in 2004.

Staff Sgt. Kyle R. Warren, a 28-year-old medical sergeant, died July 29, 2010 in Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 1st Bn., 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of California, he enlisted in the Army in October 2004.

Sgt. 1st Class Calvin B. Harrison, a 31-year-old medical sergeant, died Sept. 29, 2010 in Oruzgan province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. A, 2nd Bn., 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Texas, he enlisted in the Army in October 1998.

Sgt. 1st Class Dae Han Park, a 36-year-old communications sergeant, died March 12, 2011 in Kajran, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 3rd Bn., 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). A native of Connecticut, he enlisted in the Army in February 1998.

Master Sgt. Jared N. Van Aalst, a 34-year-old special operations sergeant, died Aug. 4, 2010 in Konduz province, Afghanistan, while assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Co., U.S. Army Special Operations Command. A native of New Hampshire, he enlisted in the Army in August 1995.

Sgt. 1st Class Ronald A. Grider, a 30-year-old special operations sergeant, died Sept. 18, 2010 in Konduz province, Afghanistan, while assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Co., U.S. Army Special Operations Command. A native of Illinois, he enlisted in the Army in August 1998.

Cpl. Michael D. Jankiewicz, a 23-year-old machine gun team leader, died April 9, 2010 in Zabul province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. A, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of New Jersey, he enlisted in the Army in July 2006.

Sgt. Joel D. Clarkson, a 23-year-old team leader, died March 16, 2010 in Farah province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. A, 2nd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Alaska, he enlisted in the Army in February 2006.

Sgt. Ronald A. Kubik, a 21-year-old rifle team leader, died April 23, 2010 in Logar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. D, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of New Jersey, he enlisted in the Army in March 2007.

Sgt. Jason A. Santora, a 25-year-old team leader, died April 23, 2010 in Logar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. D, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of New York, he enlisted in the Army in March 2006.

Cpt. Kyle A. Comfort, a 27-year-old fire support officer, died May 8, 2010 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. D, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Alabama, he was commissioned in the Army in 2006.

Sgt. Jonathan K. Peney, a 22-year-old combat medic, died June 1, 2010 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. D, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Georgia, he enlisted in the Army in November 2005.

Spc. Joseph W. Dimock, II, a 23-year-old rifleman, died July 10, 2010 in Afghanistan, while serving with Co. E, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Illinois, he enlisted in the Army in August 2007.

Sgt. Anibal Santiago, a 37-year-old sniper team leader, died July 18, 2010 in the Khowst province, Afghanistan, while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Puerto Rico, he enlisted in the Army in October 2007.

Sgt. Justin B. Allen, a 23-year-old team leader, died July 18, 2010 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. D, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Ohio, he enlisted in the Army in May 2006.

Sgt. Andrew C. Nicol, a 23-year-old team leader, died Aug. 8, 2010 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. B, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of New Hampshire, he enlisted in the Army in July 2006.

Spc. Bradley D. Rappuhn, a 24-year-old anti-armor specialist, died Aug. 8, 2010 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. B, 3rd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Michigan, he enlisted in the Army in January 2009.

Sgt. Martin A. Lugo, a 24-year-old squad leader, died Aug. 19, 2010 in Logar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Arizona, he enlisted in the Army in September 2004.

Spc. Christopher S. Wright, a 23-year-old squad automatic weapon gunner, died Aug. 19, 2010 in Konar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Kentucky, he enlisted in the Army in June 2005.

Sgt. 1st Class Lance H. Vogeler, a 29-year-old mortar section leader, died Oct. 1, 2010 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Maryland, he enlisted in the Army in May 2001.

Staff Sgt. Kevin M. Pape, a 30-year-old squad leader, died Nov. 16, 2010 in Konar province, Afghanistan, while serving with Co. C, 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment. A native of Indiana, he enlisted in the Army in September 2005.

Sgt. 1st Class David J. Hartman, a 27-year-old Civil Affairs Soldier, died Feb. 3, 2010 in Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier province, while serving with Co. B, 96th Civil Affairs Bn. (Airborne), 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne). A native of California, he enlisted in the Army in 2000.
