Special Forces to Dedicate Kennel Complex

FORT BRAGG, NC – On June 13, 2013, the deputy commander of 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) will host a ceremony that dedicates the 3rd SFG (A) Multi-Purpose Canine Kennel Complex in honor of Army Sgt. Aaron J. Blasjo.

Blasjo, who served as a Special Forces Multi-Purpose Canine handler, was killed on May 29, 2011 with his dog, Hunter, after enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device in Wardak province, Afghanistan. It was Blasjo’s third deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Blasjo’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Special Forces Tab.

A plaque honoring Blasjo will by placed at the entrance to the Kennel Complex at Fort Bragg at the ceremony, which will commence at 9 am.
