75th Ranger Killed in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, DC — The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Sgt. Leandro A.S. Jasso, 25, from Leavenworth, Washington, died Nov. 24, 2018, in Garmsir District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, as a result of wounds sustained while engaging enemy forces in Khash Rod District, Nimruz Province, Afghanistan.

The incident is under investigation; however, Jasso is believed to have been shot accidentally by Afghan troops, a division of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization said.

Jasso was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Expert Infantryman Badge.
