Hey bros,
Is there any advice or recommendations y'all can give me on getting into the army with a ranger or sf contract after I get out of the marines? Should I try to cross deck before I EAS? Lastly, I've heard MARSOC isn't the place to be right now, which is why I'm looking to the army... Can anyone tell me different?

I was prior service and no amount of begging or pleading got me an Opt.40. I had to sit at the my unit for a year and then just put in my packet for RASP. 18x was offered though, so I'm sure you will have a much easier and direct route trying to get that.

I heard that might happen... Kinda what happens to pigs tryin to go to school. How does rangers compare to sf? I know that they're almost completely da and sf is clandestine ops, but it's kinda hard pulling info on them without talkin to someone who's part of those groups.

What he means to say is your lack of attention to detail in something as simple as communicating with us probably will doom you to failure IF you even manage to get a step further down the path you think you deserve.

I say this in general and not to any specific poster:

The military is drawing down or will do so in earnest unless another long term war crops up. I feel for the prior enlisted out there, but your chances are drying up. The numbers game (and funding) simply state that it isn't 2008 anymore. Guys looking to make a run at SOF, particularly those going from one branch to another, need to be honest with themselves. 1) Staying in uniform will take some effort. 2) There is no magic bullet from one branch to the next or from one job to SOF. 3) Reduced numbers also means selection courses can be a bit more selective...they'll have less wiggle room for recycling or those with borderline performance.

Some of ya'll simply have to roll the dice. "You pays your money and you takes your chances." Things may or may not work out for you, but that's the nature of the beast. It sucks, but times have changed and continue to change.

What have you heard? Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn, but from what I've read it seems like MARSOC is undergoing a shakeup precisely to make it closer in nature to SF or SEALs. Wouldn't getting in at the ground floor of that transition be all the more advantageous?

The big thing I've been told is that their leadership is not very structured nor run by the right people
Oh, hell.... not the "I heard it from someone/ I was told" defense of an idea or action... bet the person you heard it from was an A&S non-select with a bad taste in his mouth...

Nah man, one of my close buddy's uncle was an XO at 1st MSOB- don't know exactly what he did. But he passed that information along to me. It goes without saying that everyone's experiences are different.

Kind of sounds like your buddy is talking smack about his uncle. :ROFLMAO:

Familiarize yourself with the definitions of DA and clandestine.

The best bet is to not worry about using SOF terminology until you are intimately familiar with it. Even folks who are in the military have a hard time using it correctly.

Question. How long have you been in the Marines? Judging off of your intro, it doesn't sound like you've been in long.

I don't know @doroe13 from Adam, but I do a lot of training with MSOT's and CSO's and many of them are worried about their command and leadership the same way doroe is describing it. His presentation is wrong but his concerns are legit.

I once deployed under a MARSOC SOTF, they seemed to do a good job as far as carrying for and doing right by their men.

If I had to give one critique, it would be that from the SOTF all the way down to the teams, they seemed to be closer to well trained rifleman than SFA/FID/UW* guys. That being said, they were still good at it.

*The reason I picked those three is because they are the missions that directly require a partner force.

Yeah, I'm obviously new to this. Would you mind elaborating based on your experiences with MSOT's/CSO's?
