I've just posted a similar question in the CA section, I appoligise if this is considered overkill, but I also had 37F specific questions as to where the other were CA specific questions.
I'm looking to reclass into one of these MOS's. What I'm looking for is a job that doesn't deal with "big Army", or to a minimum at least. I know old PSYOPS missions were mainly leaflets, and or getting on a loud speaker. Is there a "new" MISO mission? I know that's still the "core" of the job, but I spoke to a few CA guys here, I'm in Afghanistan right now, and they said there's a lot more combat action to MISO then there was in the past. Also do you always attach with SF? I'm looking for a good blend between using my mind, along with the tactical side of things? I don't mean to sound.......like I want my cake and eat it to, but........... I'm trying to find the best fit for me and the Army!

NOT a CA or MISO guy but I have had them attached to my ODA...
Sounds like you are setting yourself up for disappointment with your line of reasoning. Have you ever thought about going to SFAS?

Just an observation.

Yes I have very much........but to be honest, I'm not sure if my body would be up to it anymore. I'm 34 now, part of says screw and just do it, deal with the pains of age later. Another part of me says, Im not sure I want that level 100% of the time. That's why I was looking into CA or MISO. Trying to find that "happy middle" if there's one to find.

I went to SFAS at 33, and I think CRIP was 34(or 84:-") when he went through. Just remember you not only have to make it through SFAS and the Q-course, but be capable of keeping up on a team. If there are any doubts in your bodies ability to hold up, SF is not for you.

There are two types of people that I have met in MISO and CA. The ones that understand their job and love it for what its is, and the ones who try to compare themselves to SF guys.

Just saw the dude was banned, but for the benefit of anyone that is along the same asinine line of thought: there is no half assing combat. CA and MISO are still "the army." if you want to be a cool guy, earn it, instead of hiding out in organizations that are easier to get accepted to, but still wouldnt appreciate your attitude. Thank you.

I people want combat, why go for an MOS that isn't primarily concerned with it?

I can say I loved the time in the Psyop community and met one hell of a lot of good soldiers that were there for the love of the job and how we could help be a part of the big picture. Yes I came across some that took things too far and they didn't last long if they were not a team player and let their self inflated ego's get in the way. I still miss it.

Before I joined the Navy, I was looking at Army psyops. I think its cool stuff, but my point is people should want to do X job because they genuinely want to do that job.

I was lucky enough to work for the 4th POG when Clinton was invading Haiti. :D

We did some interesting stuff, and (from a Weather standpoint) I did the most technically satisfying stuff in my career.

They (generally) don't kick doors down, but they are often right behind the guy who is.

If I had the ability to return to duty, PSYOP would be one the MOS's I would want. I would either try my hand there or in one of the new 29E - Electronic Warfare Specialist (the dude who keeps up all the ECM stuff).

I know a few guys on here don't care for PSYOP, but I enjoyed working with them back in 04-05. I like their mission and think I would really enjoy it as a job. I also really liked learning about the ECM's and that mission saves soldiers lives. After 10 years in the Infantry and the medical problems I have, there is no way I would risk putting other soldiers at risk trying to keep up in a HSLD unit (Infantry, Ranger, SF, etc).

The main point, don't let others talk you out of a MOS that you think you would like or fit well with. At the same time, understand that not all 37F's are going to be out mixing it up with the enemy, you may end up in some office making posters or recording messages.

My name is Frase.
I'm a sports psychologist who has a deep interest in learning from the best as to how they developed their mental skill set in being an elite operator. It is my hope that many of you reading this could give me insight so that it may be parlayed into my working with elite athletes and teams.

Further, my esteem and respect knows no bounds with this community, for in many instances you are the warriors in the shadows who seek no praise or glory, only to accomplish what has been set before you.

I would welcome any conversations with any of you who felt comfortable in sharing with me.

Thank you in advanced.
